Compare/Contrast

The Kite Runner starts out a lot differently than the book itself. It starts out when Amir is already married and is living in California. His younger life is shown as a flashback in the movie. It actually goes back and forth between his older life and his younger life. The things that are exactly the same in the movie are some of the lines that were directly taken from the book. The rape scene is exactly the same when Amir watches the whole thing and does nothing. It is just too graphic in the movie. Honestly, some things are still the same and some are different. It depends from what angle you are kind of looking at it. There is a Kite tournament. There is a time when Amir carved in the bark of the trees that they are Sultans of Kabul. Assef calls them ******* like he has done in the book. I have to admit there is a lot of similarities as well as differences. Obviously the director couldn't do every little detail to make the movie shorter. The movie is actually very good. I like the music that was used for the movie. It starts out very cool with this Hindu music in the background or rather Spanish. It is cool.

Very nice comparison and contrast, Karolina. Now push it a little further -- why do you think the director made the changes he did? Do they work -- does the movie make sense? Does it have the same feeling as the movie?
